About This Course

Teaching Introduction to Data Science (IDS) is a professional development series designed to prepare teachers in teaching the year-long high school IDS course. This professional development course utilizes a modified version of the SCALE Immersion Model for Professional Learning (SIMPL), through which teachers immediately assume the role of learners to understand key concepts in the curriculum. After engaging as learners, they resume their role as teachers to reflect on content and pedagogy through a teacher lens. Inquiry and the utilization of strategies designed to encourage all K-12 students to actively participate are emphasized. During the course, teachers will gain pedagogical and data science content knowledge while simultaneously building their computational thinking and programming skills.
