What you can learn.

Perform each phase of a professional penetration test by conducting reconnaissance, identifying vulnerabilities, executing exploitation techniques, and analyzing post‑exploitation findings within controlled lab environments.
Configure and apply industry‑standard offensive security tools and frameworks—including virtualized testing environments, vulnerability scanners, Metasploit, and web‑application testing methods such as XSS analysis—to ethically evaluate an organization’s security posture.
Interpret, validate, and document penetration‑testing results to produce clear, actionable reports that reflect ethical considerations, responsible tool usage, and alignment with professional penetration‑testing practices.
Design and develop a custom security tool or extend an existing open‑source tool as a culminating demonstration of the ability to apply offensive techniques creatively, responsibly, and in support of real‑world security assessment needs.

About This Course

This hands-on course provides an in‑depth exploration of both common and specialized security tools used during professional penetration assessments. Beginning with an overview of the offensive attack lifecycle, students will examine the strategic purpose of penetration testing, the risks associated with offensive security work, and the methodologies used to ethically evaluate an organization’s security posture.

Learners will progress through a series of guided, practical exercises that mirror the stages of a real-world penetration test, from reconnaissance and vulnerability identification to exploitation and post‑exploitation analysis. Core topics include configuring virtualized testing environments, applying industry‑standard testing frameworks, conducting vulnerability scans, leveraging exploitation tools such as Metasploit, and analyzing web application weaknesses, including cross‑site scripting (XSS).

Throughout the course, students will gain experience interpreting scan results, validating findings, documenting vulnerabilities, and understanding how offensive insights inform defensive improvements. The curriculum emphasizes responsible tool usage, ethical considerations, and alignment with professional penetration testing practices.

As a culminating project, students will design and develop either a custom security tool or an extension to an existing open‑source tool, demonstrating their ability to apply offensive techniques creatively and responsibly within a controlled environment.
